When should you use Dirt?

Splatter Effects Dirt is perfect for projects that require the appearance of freshly thrown soil or accumulated dirt. Apply it to the lower sections of military vehicles, wheels, tracks, buildings, terrain pieces or miniature bases to recreate the effects of muddy roads, battlefields and well-used environments. The natural earth tone and textured finish blend seamlessly with painted surfaces, adding depth and realism to your weathering projects.

How to apply

AK Interactive Splatter Effects Dirt is supplied ready to use. Apply it directly with a brush to areas where dirt would naturally accumulate, or create realistic splatter effects by flicking the product from the bristles of a stiff brush. For larger splashes, you can direct the airflow of an airbrush over the loaded brush to project the material onto your model. If required, the product can be thinned with water or an acrylic thinner to improve its flow. Build the effect gradually in thin layers until you achieve the desired result.

Tips for the best results

Realistic dirt rarely appears evenly across a model. Concentrate the effect around wheels, tracks, lower hulls, foundations and areas that would naturally come into contact with wet ground. Applying several light layers creates a far more convincing finish than one heavy application. Once dry, Splatter Effects Dirt can also be combined with additional weathering techniques to add even more variation and realism to your miniatures, terrain and diorama projects.
