When should you use Shadow Soil Basing Paste?

Shadow Soil Basing Paste is perfect for creating rocky hillsides, limestone landscapes, mountain paths and mineral-rich terrain on miniature bases. Its subtle grey colour makes it particularly suitable for fantasy, historical and science fiction miniatures where a neutral, stony environment complements the model without overpowering it. It also provides an excellent base for adding rocks, tufts and weathering effects.

How to apply

Apply AK Interactive Shadow Soil Basing Paste directly from the pot using a sculpting tool, spatula or an old brush. Spread the paste evenly across the miniature base while shaping the surface before it begins to dry. The product performs equally well in thin and thicker layers and can be thinned with water or an acrylic thinner if required. Allow approximately 6 hours for the basing paste to cure completely before applying additional weathering products or scenic materials.

Tips for the best results

Quartz-rich and limestone terrain looks most convincing when subtle colour variation is introduced after the paste has cured. Apply a light grey or ivory drybrush to highlight the raised texture, then add darker washes into the recesses for additional depth. Finish the base with scattered stones, sparse vegetation or weathering pigments to recreate natural rocky landscapes full of character.
